Rovaniemi.com exists to answer the questions people actually ask before a trip to Lapland: when to come, how cold it is, what to book, how to see the northern lights, what to do with children, where to sleep and how to get here.
What we cover
The city of Rovaniemi and everything visitors do from it: Santa Claus Village and SantaPark on the Arctic Circle, the museums and the hill of Ounasvaara, the safaris by husky, reindeer and snowmobile, the aurora, and the day trips to Korouoma, Ranua, Kemi and the forest. Each main sight has its own guide, and the practical pages cover seasons, clothing, transport, itineraries, family travel and accommodation.
How we work
Practical details are checked against official sources — the city’s tourist office, the attractions themselves, Finnish railways, the airport operator, Metsähallitus (which manages the hiking areas) and the Finnish Meteorological Institute — and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings, review counts and “from” prices come directly from GetYourGuide; accommodation listings from Trip.com.
Lapland is seasonal and weather-dependent, and opening dates, timetables and prices change from one winter to the next. Where something is liable to change we say so, and we link to live prices rather than printing figures that will date. We are not affiliated with any of the attractions, operators or public bodies mentioned.
How the site is funded
The guide is free to read. When you book a tour or a place to stay through our links we may earn a commission, at no cost to you. That never decides what we recommend — see our affiliate disclosure.
